Is the score an IELTS or official exam score?
No. Exam-inspired modes are explicitly labelled indicative and are not official or certified scores.
Why do you show more than one number?

Yes. It teaches informal expressions with context: what they mean, who uses them, how tone changes the meaning, and when a neutral or formal alternative is the safer choice.
Will there be different Malaysian speech modes?
Contexts include BM-English/Manglish, Malaysian Chinese-English, Tamil-Malay-English and regional speech such as Penang-influenced English. These are learning contexts. Not everyone in a community speaks the same way.

What is SpeakSharp?
SpeakSharp is a web app for practising speaking and communication. You speak, get feedback, fix one thing and try again. It covers impromptu practice, AI conversation, roleplay, presentations, interviews, shadowing, vocabulary, saved sentences and progress tracking.
Who is SpeakSharp for?
Students, job seekers, young professionals and everyday learners. International users can also use the Malaysia & Culture mode to understand Malaysian language and culture in context.
What happens after I sign up?
You confirm your email address, then answer a few onboarding questions about your age, goals, languages, situations, level and consent. Every account starts on the free plan, and your first paid plan begins with a 7-day trial. SpeakSharp is for ages 13 and over. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must give permission before some features are switched on.
How much does it cost and what happens after the trial?
Prices are in Malaysian ringgit. The free plan (RM0) includes 2 full scored drills, 1 quick drill and 1 Communication Gym session a month, plus the translation helper. It has no live voice and no pronunciation check. Paid plans are Student (RM14.90 a month or RM149 a year, 20 full drills, 6 minutes of live voice, 1 gym session), Pro (RM29.90 or RM299, 34 drills, 18 minutes, 4 gym sessions) and Plus (RM59.90 or RM599, 56 drills, 48 minutes, 8 gym sessions). Each paid plan also includes an allowance of AI coach and feedback actions (30, 100 and 250) and translations (300, 600 and 1,000). Your first paid plan starts with a 7-day trial: 8 full drills, 5 minutes of live voice and 1 gym session. A card is required at sign-up, there is one trial per card, and the card is charged automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel first. Allowances reset on the 1st of each month, Malaysia time, and do not roll over. See the plans table.
Which languages does live voice support, and why are the minutes different?
You can practise in English, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin and Tamil. English and Mandarin use the standard live voice model. Bahasa Melayu and Tamil use OpenAI's most capable live voice model, for the best quality in those languages. It costs about 3.35 times as much, so those two languages get about 30% of the minutes (roughly 1.8, 5.4 and 14 a month on Student, Pro and Plus). One call is limited to 10 minutes.
Does the microphone and voice transcription actually work?
Yes, in browsers that support speech recognition. If yours doesn't, you can type your answer instead. Support varies by browser, language, permissions and connection, so results can differ from one device to another.
Does the camera record me?
No. The camera is optional. For presentations and formal situations, it shows a local preview and, if you allow it, takes a single snapshot to check framing, presence and lighting. It doesn't record continuous video.
Can I upload my own slides?
Yes. Presentation Lab accepts PDF or PowerPoint files, pulls out the slide text and turns it into a speaking plan. If a file can't be read, paste the text in instead.
Is my score an official exam score?
No. Exam-style scoring is labelled as indicative. It is for practice and feedback, not certification.
What exactly goes into the speaking score?
The general rubric covers Fluency & Flow, Vocabulary, Grammar, Organization & Structure, and Topic Relevance & Content. Timing, word count, pauses and estimated filler words are used as evidence for delivery.
Can I see the transcript and correct recognition mistakes?
Yes. You can fix recognition mistakes before scoring. Leave your fillers and false starts in. They show how you really speak, and the feedback depends on them.
What is shadowing?
You listen to a natural line, repeat it straight away, then compare and work on one fix. It trains rhythm, stress and pronunciation.
What are Word of the Day and Sentence Bank?
Word of the Day gives you a word's meaning, pronunciation and an example, then asks you to use it in speech. Sentence Bank lets you save useful sentences from books, videos, classes or conversations and try them in a later speech.
Can I practise with friends?
Yes. You add friends with a friend code (there is no public search), and the leaderboard shows only you and your friends. Friends you've added can see your leaderboard name, rank, rating, best drill score, streak and number of spoken drills. The rating is a lifetime speaking rating in each language, with recent drills counting most. It uses the transcript and speaking measurements reported by your browser, so it is a practice comparison, not a certified score. Friends never see your transcripts or practice history, and you can hide yourself from the leaderboard. Under-18 users are hidden from leaderboards by default.
Is my speaking data private?
Microphone and camera access are optional and controlled by your browser. Your answer text is sent to Anthropic to score it and write feedback. Live voice audio and read-aloud voices are handled by OpenAI. Where pronunciation scoring is available, a short recording is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech, and we do not store it. After scoring we keep the score, the feedback and speech measurements, not the transcript, and we do not store audio recordings. Some of this processing happens outside Malaysia. The Privacy Notice lists every service we use and how long we keep each kind of data.
What changes if I am under 18?
You must be 13 or over. Under 18, safe mode is always on. A parent or guardian has to give permission through a link we email them before live voice, audio recording upload and pronunciation scoring, the camera coach, friends and challenges, and paid plans are enabled. Under-18 users are hidden from leaderboards by default, and a guardian can withdraw permission or ask for deletion at any time. See Safety.
Does SpeakSharp work on phone and desktop?
Yes. It works on phone, tablet and desktop. Voice and camera features depend on your browser and device.
Can international learners use the Malaysia & Culture mode?
Yes. It teaches language, culture and communication in context. Local expressions are examples, not rules for every Malaysian, and each one comes with a neutral or formal alternative.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
You can cancel at any time to stop future charges, from the cancel page, the billing portal, or Settings under Manage / cancel subscription. There are no refunds after a charge. Card payments are processed by Stripe. Payment terms are in the Terms.
